Biography - Ulugbek Palvanov

Ulugbek Palvanov was born in 1974 in Uzbekistan and began playing the piano at the age of five. He studied at the Special Music School in Tashkent and later at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where he received significant artistic guidance from Prof. Lev Naumov.

In 1997, he continued his studies in Germany at the University of the Arts Berlin (UDK), first with Prof. Klaus Bässler and later with Prof. Klaus Hellwig.

His international career was launched by winning numerous prestigious national and international piano competitions. Palvanov is a laureate or first prize winner of, among others, the International Piano Competition in Bishkek (1990), the City of Porto International Piano Competition (1991), the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Bolzano (1996), the Tbilisi International Piano Competition (1997), the Steinway Competition in Berlin (1998), the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau (2000), the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv (2001), and the Arthur Schnabel Piano Competition at the Berlin University of the Arts (2003).

As a soloist, Palvanov has performed across Europe, the United States, and Russia. He has collaborated with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Bolzano Chamber Orchestra, and the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra. A highly sought-after soloist and chamber musician, he has performed at the Newport Music Festival and the Van Cliburn Foundation (USA), the Kyoto Music Festival (Japan), and in many of the world's leading concert halls.

In 2009, he was awarded the Cultural Prize of the German Order of St. John for his outstanding contributions to cultural life in Germany.

In May 2018, together with violinist David Yonan, he won a Silver Medal at the Global Music Awards in Los Angeles in the categories of "Ensemble" and "New Composition" for a live recording of the Sonata No. 1, Op. 5 and Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano by Italo-Canadian composer Sandro Fazzolari.

Since 2014, Ulugbek Palvanov has served as the artistic director of the concert series Pianowerke.

He currently lives in Berlin.
